Rapid T(1) mapping using multislice echo planar imaging.

چکیده
Determination of neurological pathology in white matter disease can be made in a semiquantitative way from T(1)- or T(2)-weighted images. A higher level of quantification based on measured T(1) or T(2) values has been either limited to specific regions of interest or to low-resolution maps. Higher-resolution T(1) maps have proved difficult to obtain due to the excessively long scan times required using conventional techniques. In this study, clinically acceptable images are obtained by using single-shot echo planar imaging (EPI) with an acquisition scheme that maximizes signal-to-noise while minimizing the scan time. New spatiotemporal approaches for fully refocused, multislice ultrafast 2D MRI.
PURPOSE Single-scan multislice acquisition schemes play key roles in magnetic resonance imaging. Central among these "ultrafast" experiments stands echo-planar imaging, a technique that although of optimal sampling is challenged by T2* artifacts. Recent studies described alternatives based on spatiotemporal encoding (SPEN), which are particularly robust if implemented in a "full-refocusing" mod...
متن کاملRapid T1 mapping of mouse myocardium with saturation recovery Look-Locker method.
Dynamic contrast-enhanced MRI using gadolinium or manganese provides unique characterization of myocardium and its pathology. In this study, an electrocardiography (ECG) triggered saturation recovery Look-Locker method was developed and validated for fast cardiac T(1) mapping in small animal models. By sampling the initial portion of the longitudinal magnetization recovery curve, high temporal ...
متن کاملReducing inhomogeneity artifacts in functional MRI of human brain activation-thin sections vs gradient compensation.
We evaluated two methods for correcting inhomogeneity-induced signal losses in magnetic resonance gradient-echo imaging that either use gradient compensation or simply acquire thin sections. The strategies were tested in the human brain in terms of achievable quality of T2*-weighted images at the level of the hippocampus and of functional activation maps of the visual cortex. Experiments were p...
متن کاملThe effect of slice order and thickness on fMRI activation data using multislice echo-planar imaging.
Multislice echo-planar imaging (EPI) is a commonly used technique for fMRI studies. Brain activation images acquired using fMRI are sensitive to T2* changes, reflecting the level of blood oxygenation (BOLD contrast), and may also contain an element of T1 contrast which detects blood flow changes in large vessels. If slice inflow (T1) effects are significant in multislice EPI, then as the order ...
متن کاملFast high-resolution T1 mapping using inversion-recovery Look-Locker echo-planar imaging at steady state: optimization for accuracy and reliability.
A fast T(1) measurement sequence using inversion recovery Look-Locker echo-planar imaging at steady state (IR LL-EPI SS) is presented. Delay time for a full magnetization recovery is not required in the sequence, saving acquisition time significantly for high-resolution T(1) mapping. Imaging parameters of the IR LL-EPI SS sequence were optimized to minimize the bias from the excitation pulses i...
